James "Jimmy" Edward Fitts, 89, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama passed away on October 22, 2020 after a short battle with cancer. Jimmy was born on November 16, 1930, in Selma, AL. to Desma and Cecil Fitts.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Carol Rutledge Fitts, his parents, his sister Louise McFerrin and brother-in-law Frank Hendrix.
Survivors include his daughters; Lisa Fitts and Sharon Bergeron (Peter), sons; Charles Fitts (Tammy), David Fitts (Paige), grandchildren; Lara Watkins (Padgett), Chandler Fitts, Emily Fitts, Kelsey Fitts, C.C. Bergeron, great granddaughter; Samantha Watkins, sister-in-law; Marie Hendrix, nephew; Bobby McFerrin and many other nieces and nephews.
Jimmy graduated from Parrish High School in Selma and served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. Jimmy will be remembered for his love of Alabama football, gardening, hunting, yard work and woodworking. If you visited Jimmy during the summer, you would leave with a bag of fresh vegetables from his garden. He was an active member of the Shelton State Woodworking Class for over 20 years. He and other members of the class built the cabinetry in Jimmy's home, and many members of his family still treasure pieces of furniture Jimmy built for them. Jimmy attended Big Sandy Baptist Church and was a longtime member of Little Sandy Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held at Little Sandy Baptist Church Cemetery, Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 11:00 am with Magnolia Chapel South directing.
Pallbearers will be Chandler Fitts, Padgett Watkins, Peter Bergeron, Mark McFerrin, Matt Turner, and Steve Kornegay.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that you donate to Hospice of West Alabama or The American Red Cross.
