Irene Spencer

Ms. Irene Spencer, age 84, of Kennedy, Alabama, passed away October 16, 2021 at Hospice of West Alabama with her family by her side. She was born Aug. 12, 1937 to Frank and Lola Espey Smith. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, at Phillips Chapel Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa County and burial in the church cemetery with Terrell Jones and Ed Nabors officiating. Visitation will 10:00 a.m. before the service.

She enjoyed her life as a Navy wife and as office manager at Adrian's, but her most cherished job was that of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved the Lord, all of her family, traveling and "tailgating" in her family room for any Alabama sports games on TV.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Freddie, Truman, Doyle and Adrian Smith; three sisters Velvie (Dewitt) Barnes, Lorene (Clelon) Pugh and Darlene Snyder; three nephews, Andy Pugh, Doug Smith and Randy Snyder; three nieces Anne Rushing Hubbard, Tina Smith Williams and Cynthia Pugh Swindle; and one great nephew, Nick Evans.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Mike Conner Spencer of Kennedy, AL; two daughters, Sabrina McCool of Kennedy and Chrystal Spencer of Trussville, AL; two grandsons, Ryan McCool of Kennedy, AL and Brad (Kaylee) McCool of Northport, AL; one granddaughter, Katy Weaver of Trussville, AL and one great-grandson, Ben Weaver of Trussville, AL; two sisters, Gracie Rushing and Linda (Mike) Cunningham of Northport and one brother, Herman Smith of Coker, AL; sister-in-laws, Lougene Smith Watson, Connie Smith, Barbee Smith and Betty (Dewey) Barger, brother-in-laws, Grover Snyder and Donal (Arlet) Spencer and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Pallbearers will be Ryan McCool, Brad McCool, Ken Richardson, Dewayne Smith, Harold Barnes, Ronnie Sanders, Patrick Phillips and Johnny Mack Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers are LeAnn and Danny Dollar, Dr. Sakina Kamal, Dr. Laubenthal and staff, Avaleen Porter, Jane Pearson, staff of Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. Olumide Gbolahan and staff of UAB Hepatobiliary Oncological and Surgical Clinic, friends and neighbors.
