Clara Lyles McCray, age 92 of Greensboro, Alabama passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Hospice of West Alabama. A 10:00 am graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Dee McGuire of Greensboro Baptist Church officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Howard Curtis McCray, parents; Ruby Clayton and Beulah Melba Nelson Lyles, sisters; Beulah Audrey Prentice, and Mary Frances Todd.
Survivors include her daughter; Marilyn Rosa McCray Minehan (Dan) of La Plata, MD., son; Michael Curtis McCray of Greensboro, AL., she is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Clara was born on March 24, 1929 in Hale County, Alabama. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and strongly supported her husband throughout his military career. After her time as a military spouse, she and Howard returned to Greensboro where she later retired as a longtime employee of Home Drug. Along with our dad, she exemplified a life of gratitude and service to others and laid a firm foundation for her two children and son-in-law. She was a faithful member of the Greensboro Baptist Church, The Pierian Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She cherished her family and will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Larry McCray, Phil McCray, Steve Lewis, Kent McCray, Clark McCray, Mark McCray, and Reginald McCray.
Honorary pallbearers include Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. Scott Fulgham, loving caregiver Crystal Lee, and loving friends Tawanza Edwards and Rose Mary Green.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in her memory to Hospice of West Alabama, Greensboro Baptist Church, or St. Paul's Episcopal Church Book of Remembrance.
