Zelma Taylor

Zelma Catherine Jack Taylor, age 94 of Northport passed away January 18, 2024 at Glen Haven Nursing Home. Services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Magnolia Chapel South at 1:00 pm with Rev. Jeffery Kinnaman officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing. Visitation will be held at the chapel one hour prior to the service.

She is preceded in death by her husband; Don Taylor, sister; Gloria Ellis, and brother; Wendell Jack.

Survivors include her daughter; Kathy Kay Taylor Handley (Jerry) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, son; Timothy Lee Taylor (Marsha) of Lake Placid, Florida, sister; Beulah Krahl (Jim) of Memphis, Tennessee, and her grandchildren; Jeremy Kent Handley (Leanne) of Semmes, AL, Joy Carol Norton (Paul) of Cottondale, AL., Travis Andrew Taylor of St. Augustine, Florida, Emily Leah Taylor of Shreveport, LA. and eight Great-grandchildren.

Zelma Katherine Jack Taylor was born October 3, 1929, In Meeker, Oklahoma. And went to be with her Lord on January 19, 2024. Her parents were William Robert Jack and Ora Hurn Jack. Three siblings later joined the family: Gloria, Beulah and Wendell .

Zelma's early years were spent on the tenant farm in Meeker, which her father worked. In 1949, the family moved to Bethany, Oklahoma, where she lived until 2008.

In 1951, she was attending a cottage prayer meeting at the home of the Webb family. A young man named Don Taylor caught her eye, and they were inseparable from then on. They were married on May 22nd of 1952, and she spent the next 69 years of her life with her "prince." You seldom saw one of them without the other, and their affection for each other was easily seen.

In 1954, they welcomed a daughter, Kathy, and in 1956, Tim joined the family.

Zelma suffered many years with a depressive disorder, but some things that never changed. She was a woman of prayer. For hours every day, she would sit in her chair, and you could see her lips moving as she interceded for her loved ones. When informed about the death of one of her in-laws, her reply was that she would have to take him off her prayer list. Her Bible literally fell apart from being handled so much.

She loved her church. As long as she was able, she was there any time the doors were open. She was devastated when she was unable to attend Campmeeting, because that was the highlight of her year. She loved her family with a passion. Her husband was truly the love of her life. Every morning in the nursing home, the staff could hear her greet him with an "I Love you. Their Love never faded. That same love transferred over onto her children. Her family and friends will miss her love and her prayers.
