Yvonne Smith

Yvonne Smith (AKA GrandVon) of Eutaw, Alabama, passed away on December 31, 2024. Services will be Monday, January 6, 2025, at 1 pm at Union Christian Church, with visitation at noon.

Von was born on July 27, 1944, as the middle daughter of Elam and Vesta Cox Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and older sister Aloma (Jack) Johnston. She is survived by her younger sister Greta (Jim) Bambarger and daughters Ashley (William) Cousins, Jennifer (Forest) Wilson, and Meredith (Clark) Lipscomb. She was adored by her grandchildren Anne Morgan Cousins (Peyton) Wilhite, Will Cousins, Mary Margaret Wilson, Kate Wilson, Sarah Wilson, Liz Lipscomb, and Mason Lipscomb.

Von could simply light up a room with her presence, personality, charm, and intellect. She was fun-loving, passionate, often mischievous, and always the life of every party or family gathering. She loved gardening, horses, all things Southwestern, chocolate (especially chocolate pie), diet Dr. Pepper, Elvis, Willie Nelson, and turquoise. She was a gift to everyone she met.

The family would like to express appreciation for her wonderful caregivers: Clarine Daniels, Ola Reynolds, Fannie Smith, Tempie Hunter, and Bessie Simmons. Thanks also to Jimmy Wilder for many years of assistance. The family would also like to express gratitude to SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice.

Pallbearers will be William Cousins, Forest Wilson, Clark Lipscomb, Will Cousins, Mason Lipscomb, and Peyton Wilhite.
