William Andrew "Bubba" Stephens Sr. NORTHPORT | William Andrew (Bubba) Stephens Sr., age 74, of Northport, went home to be with the Lord on December 2, 2014 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Burial will be at Williamson Cemetery in Northport on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Jerry Croft and Rev. Matt Smith officiating. Viewing and visitation will be held at graveside 30 minutes prior to the service. Arrangements will be handled by Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy (Nannie V.) and A.W. (Steve) Stephens. Andrew is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Lois Turner Stephens, one cherished son, Andrew (Andy) Stephens Jr. (Jammie), a beloved grandson, Keith Stephens and his big sister, Nancy Stephens. Special in-laws are Twilla Cummings, Mary and Dewey Walker, Jane and Jack Turner and many nieces and nephews. Andrew was born in Northport, Ala. on October 31, 1940, a Halloween baby as we often kidded him. He attended Northport Primary and secondary schools and graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in the class of 1959. After high school, he joined the Air Force and served his country in France and Spain until being honorably discharged in 1963. He then came back home to Northport and attended business college in Birmingham until 1965 when he started working at City National Bank in downtown Tuscaloosa as a runner. He also started helping his father in the family business, Steve's Shoe Shop, in downtown Northport. Around this same time he also met and courted the love of his life, ending up in marriage in 1965. Their only son was born in 1966. Over the years, he worked his way up with the City National Bank and its successors, First Alabama Bank and Regions Bank, rising to the office of Assistant Vice President before retiring in 2003 to spend time relaxing, traveling and enjoying time with friends, family and his only grandson. Late in his life he met many challenges to his health. He bested one after the other until finally he was diagnosed with the cancer that seem to sap all of his strength and contributed to the many issues that caused his death. He will always be truly cherished as a wonderful, loving husband, father and grandfather and a truly great provider for his family. He was the little brother to a big sister but he acted the opposite, always watching over her and taking care of her to the very end. He was a true friend to many and was always there when someone needed banking counsel or knowledge, often going out of his way to help people with loans and other financial matters. He will always be dearly loved and missed by his family and all who knew him. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Barnes, Gene and Joyce Reynolds and family, special cousin Ken Mills, Shawn and Kim Kendrick and family, present and past employees of Regions and Bryant Banks, TCHS class of 1959, past and present friends and neighbors in Manora Estates, Drs.
