William Lewis

William L. (Bill) Lewis TUSCALOOSA William L. (Bill) Lewis, age 79, of Tuscaloosa, died Nov. 16, 2012, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Circlewood Baptist Church with Dr. Herb Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. He was preceded in death by his son, Gavin Arnold Lewis; parents, Hosea and Beatrice Lewis; and brothers, Tilmond and Harold Lewis. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Shirley Arnold Lewis; daughter, Tina Lewis Henry and son-in-law, Mike Henry; sister, Sue Lewis Lott; brother, John Lewis; and grandchildren, Amye Elizabeth Oswalt and Austin Kyle Henry. He was an active member of Circlewood Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and a member of the Celebration Choir. He sang with the Rhythmaires Quartet of Bibb County for a number of years as well with the Friendly Four Quartet. He was known as "Pop"� by many. He loved being in the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. After retirement, he enjoyed many treasured moments with his family, especially with his grandchildren, Amye and Austin. There were not many days that passed that he wasn't picking them up from school, taking them to church activities, ball practice, and games, or going treasure hunting with his metal detector. He enjoyed "tailgating"� at Mike and Tina's while watching Alabama football. Many ladies, young and old, will miss getting their hug from "Pop,"� which is how Bill typically greeted them. Pallbearers will be Durrell Guy, Billy Minges, Donald Tilley, James Vice, David Tilley, Lomax Fuller, Palmer Kizziah, Ray Hubbard, J.T. Kirkley, Doug Nelson, and Kenny Nelson. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons, Friendship/Fellowship Sunday School Classes, Celebration Choir, and all members of Circlewood Baptist Church; Judson and Jennifer Minges and employees of Cain Steel and Supply; Dr. Robert Haraway and staff; Corey Taylor; Dr. Steve Lovelady and staff; Dr. Anne Lewis; Mackie Deason and employees of Jac Mac Tire Co.; Blaine and Becky Langham; neighbors of South Park; Margaret Payne; Mayene Hubbard; Millie McCool; Hospice of West Alabama; Lou Latham; Honors Way at Veterans Memorial Hospital; and Artie Shaul. At the family's request, memorial donations may be made to Circlewood Baptist Church Music Ministry or Hospice of West Alabama.
