William Griffin

William Pratt Griffin BRENT William Pratt Griffin, age 91, of Brent, died Feb. 18, 2013, at Brookwood Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church with Reuben Compere officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Althea and Reid Griffin, and his brother, Reid Griffin Jr. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Minnie Ward Griffin; his daughter, Helen Bamberg Griffin; his son, Billy Griffin (Debbie); his sister, Barbara Collins (James); his grandchildren, Trey Griffin and Jason Griffin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Griffin served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He received the Bronze Star for his actions in the Philippines. He retired with 20 years service combined in World War II and the Alabama National Guard. He was a deacon of Bethel Baptist Church. He was a member of the Alabama Forest Owners' Association and the Alabama Cattleman's Association. He was a businessman and farmer in Bibb County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in Brent.
