Wesley M (Tess) Averette, age 88 of Moundville, went peacefully in his sleep to be with his Lord and Savior on June 26, 2024. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 11:00 am at Magnolia Chapel South with his son, Bro. Phillip Averette and Bro. Matthew Kornman officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing. Burial will follow at Faith Chapel Church Cemetery in North Perry (Marion). Visitation will be held at the chapel one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen V. (Bailey) Averette, parents; Preston and Gracie Averette, mother and father-in-law; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bailey, grandson; Christopher Lee Averette, sister-in-law; Peggy Averette and several sister and brother -in- laws.
He is survived by his two sons; Timothy Averette (Donna) of Northport, Bro. Phillip Averette (Delores) of Niota, TN., three daughters; Annette Fondren (Glenn) of Moundville, Marilyn Ard (Luke) of Hanceville, and Paula Bates (Carl), of Moundville, 13 grandchildren; Kathryn Ezell, Kimberly Michael, Jennifer Massengale (Freddy), Jessica Cole (Ralph), Alana Holmes, Lacey Williamson (Zach), Wesley Phillip Averette, II (Holly), Elisabeth Hale (Rob), Laura Davis (Brandon), Anna Crowley (Jon), Ethan Averette (Laura), Carlton Bates (Ashley), and Caleigh Boswell (Jonathan), 28 great grandchildren, two brothers; Less Averette and Gene Averette (Kay), sister-in-law; Elsie Vernon and a host of nieces and nephews; and a very loved special companion, Louise Thomas.
Whether you called him Wesley, Tess, Screwdriver, son, brother, uncle, cousin, daddy or PawPaw, to know him was to love him. He was a great mechanic to the community and many dealerships around. He enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar, singing and spending time with his family.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons, Wesley Averette, Carlton Bates, Justin and Brett Cole, Evan and Ethan Michael, Averette Ezell, and Jake Holmes.
Honorary pallbearers will be (remaining great grandsons) Adam Watters Ezell, Deacon Fondren, Preston, Sawyer and Ethan Averette, Silas and Parker Hale, Braylon Davis, Lawson Averette, Greycen and Jedd Crowley, the late Dr. Larry Skelton and Staff, Cardiology Consultants of Tuscaloosa (Dr. William Hill, Dr. Anne Lewis, Dr. Amit Shah, Dr, Jeffrey Anderson and Dr. Ford Simpson), and Amedisys Hospice.
