Wayne Rice

Wayne Clay Rice Sr. NORTHPORT - Wayne Clay Rice, Sr., age 66, of Northport, died November 18, 2016, at UAB - Birmingham Hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Terrell Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be Monday, November 21, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his father, William Clayton Rice; mother, Marjoe Holcomb Rice; and brother, Eddy Rice. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lindie Traweek Rice; daughters, Karla Gant (Greg) and Carrie Barger (Jim); son, Clay Rice (Amanda); sister, Jane Harless (Paul); brother, Bill Rice (Sheila); and grandchildren, Emma Barger, Claire Gant, Lily Barger, Clayton Rice and Kellyn Rice. Wayne was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971. He retired from AT&T with 38 years of service. He was a deacon at Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Ray Watkins, Bobby Swindle, Elden Willingham, Robert Smith, Dennis Sudduth, Ray Miller, Junior Hughes and Joe Lane. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Pedro Lopez, Dr. Joseph Barney and Dr. Jeffrey Laubenenthal, and employees of Med South, Inc. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
