Virginia Powell Turner, age 85, of Tuscaloosa, died at home under the care of Hospice of West Alabama on Saturday, June 10, 2017. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2017, at Bethel Presbyterian Church with Dr. Mark McCormick officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Virginia was born to Wheat and Lorene Powell on July 6, 1931. She married Floyd Patton Turner on March 16, 1949. They were married for 68 years. She was the loving mother of five children, proud grandmother of six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Virginia retired from The University of Alabama and was fortunate to travel the United States with the motorhome group. She enjoyed traveling and tailgating with the Tide, Alabama Football and Alabama Softball. She will be profoundly missed. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Wheat and Lorene Powell of Jena, Ala.; her sister, Shelby Huffman of Jena, Ala.; and her son, Dennis Ray "Denny"� Turner. She is survived by her husband, Floyd Patton Turner; daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and Carl Spurgin of Romulus, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Terri Turner of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sons, Mark Turner of Northport, Ala. and Chris Turner of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren, Lee Turner (Sarah) and their daughters, Scarlet and Violet, Tyler Turner and his children, Alexis and Dylan, Maranda Morales (Caesar) and her children, Dominic and Tatianna, Mark Turner, Jr. and his daughters, Lexi and Lilly, Ellot Turner and Sylvia Turner. She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews and former daughters-in-law, Susan Foster and Amy Hatfield as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Virginia is also survived by a sister, Doris Ellison (Llannie) and a brother, Walter Powell (Diane). Pallbearers will be her nephews: Johnny, Robert and Ricky Turner and Dale and Butch Ellison. The family would like to thank the members of Bethel Presbyterian Church and friends and neighbors for your prayers and dedicated support of cards and food.
