Vesta Lee Smith
EUTAW - Vesta Lee Smith, age 98, of Eutaw, Alabama, passed away July 7, 2018 peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Union Christian Church with Rev. Ken Lee and Rev. Phillip Lee presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Vesta Smith, also known as ''GG'' was a classic southern cook and spent many years cooking with love for her family and friends. She worked at the family restaurant the Log Cabin and Smith's Roller Rink. She volunteered at the Druid City Hospital for many years.
She loved to paint pictures of people, wildlife, and beautiful scenery. Vesta also enjoyed creating ceramic figures. She entertained her grandchildren and great-grandchildren by saying her ABC's backwards and telling many elaborate stories.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Elam Smith; her parents, Merton W. Cox and Mary Jane Stamps Cox; her sisters, Anita Hallman, Pigeon Barksdale, Ethel Barksdale, Polly Adams, Myrl Bailey and Ruth Goodwin; and her twin, Freda Kapolka.
Survivors include her daughters, Aloma Johnston (Jack), Yvonne Smith and Greta Bambarger (Jim), all of Eutaw, Alabama; her grandchildren, Jem Blair (Michele), Ashley Cousins (William), Jennifer Wilson (Forest), Aimee Spencer, Bridgette Monk (Derek), Meredith Lipscomb (Clark) and Leslie Abernathy (Ron); and her fourteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jerald Spencer, Ron Abernathy, William Cousins, Forest Wilson, Derek Monk, Clark Lipscomb, Will Cousins and Scott Monk.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her caregivers: Willie Cheatem, Mary Byrd, Elizabeth Clark, Lou Edmonds, Etta Edwards, Jay Walton and Comfort Care Hospice.
