Solon R. "Sam" Terry Jr. NORTHPORT Solon R. "Sam" Terry Jr., age 85, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Merrill Gardens Assisted Living Community. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Bro. Bill Richards and Bro. David Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the funeral home. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Solon R. Terry Sr. and Della Potts Terry; one sister, Lucille Terry Snipes; and his beloved wife, Frances Odell Freeman Terry. Survivors include his son, Tony Terry (Tina); his daughter, Nancy Terry Dyer (Danny); four grandsons, Clint Terry, Chase Dyer, Justin Terry, and Dakota Dyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sam was born in the New Lexington community in Fayette County and was raised in Tuscaloosa. He was the younger of two children. He entered the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old and served for two years. Upon returning home, he met and married the love of his life Frances Freeman. At her death in 2011 they had been soul mates for 65 years. Sam worked for B.F. Goodrich for 35 years and in 1970 built three poultry houses and started growing for Peco Foods. He worked his cattle farm and the poultry houses up until the death of his wife in 2011. He was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church and was the spiritual leader of his household. He was a hard man but loved his family deeply and was an excellent provider for his family. He will be greatly missed, but will be reunited with his soul mate in that wonderful place called Heaven. Pallbearers will be Tony Terry, Danny Dyer, Clint Terry, Chase Dyer, Justin Terry, and Dakota Dyer. Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Caring Hands Hospice, staff and residents of Merrill Gardens Assisted Living Community, Rosemary McCaa, Wanda Bailey, Dr. Regina Harrell, Dr. and Mrs. John O. Waites, Mary Hyche, Rachel Abramo, friends of Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Englewood Baptist Church, Rose Blvd. Baptist Church, Senior Men's Sunday School Class at Chapel Hill Baptist, Tabernacle Baptist Church, and neighbors of Tom Montgomery Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Caring Hands Hospice or Chapel Hill Baptist Building Fund.
