Sarah Kathryn Davidson Hicks NORTHPORT - Sarah Kathryn Davidson Hicks, age 80, of Northport, Ala., died Monday, September 4, 2017, at her residence. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Dr. Ken Cheek officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be today, September 6, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raiford Hicks; son, Barry Allen Hicks; parents, Charles and Sarah Ann Davidson; brothers, Owen Davidson and Mitchell Davidson; and nephews, Patrick Astafan, Scott Mayo Davidson and Chuck Davidson. Survivors include her daughters, Denise Kizziah (Zane) and Ranette Robertson (Dean); son, Billy Ray Hicks; sisters, Alice Astafan (Peter), Helen Jane Miniard (Roger) and Myrtle Malone; brothers, George Davidson (Betty), Paul Davidson (Hilda) and James Davidson (Mary); grandchildren, Jennifer Dunkling (Josh), Alanna Holcomb, Ross Kizziah, Rebekah Conn (Dallas), Laura Frye (Ken) and Christopher Hicks (Chelsy); and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jared Dunkling, Trey and Kaytlyn Kennedy, Drew and McKenna Frye and Bentley and Ava Smith. Mrs. Hicks was a graduate of Druid City School of Nursing in 1958. She served as Staff and Head Nurse positions at DCH until 1976. She then transferred to New Northport Hospital owned by 14 physicians assisting with the opening and serving as supervisor, assistant director and Director of nursing until 1987. She then went to S.D. Allen Immediate Care Unit serving as Director of Nursing until she retired in 1998 after 40 years of nursing career. During her nursing career, she was a member of Alabama Hospital Association, Advance Board Shelton Junior Nursing College, Member of Planning Committee at University of Alabama for Educational Offerings for State of Alabama, Board of Nursing Planning Committee, member of the National Organization of Nurse Executives, member of Alabama and West Alabama Organization of Nurse Executives where she served as Secretary and President. She was very active in her church, Chapel Hill, where she served as WMU Director, Children's Sunday School Department and taught Adult Sunday School. She was a member of the choir. She served on the Personnel Committee, Building Program Committee, Constitution and Bylaws Committee, and Finance Committee. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, rose gardening and keeping grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, and sister. She was always very active and never knew the meaning of "no". She was always at church whenever the doors were opened. She loved her Savior and is now face to face with him and celebrating with loved ones that went before her. Pallbearers will be Christopher Hicks, Ross Kizziah, Josh Dunkling, Jacob Dunkling, Ken Frye, Mike Davidson, Mark Davidson, Brian Davidson, Tony Terry, Geoffrey Malone, and Kevin Malone. Honorary pallbearers are Courtney Madison-Waller- special caregiver, Dr. Regina Harrell, Hospice Care nurses and caregivers, friends and neighbors of Tom Montgomery Road, friends of Chapel Hill Baptist Church, members of the Felicia Porter Sunday School class and Wings Ladies of Chapel Hill Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mrs. Hick's name to the Alzheimer's Association and the American Heart Association.
