Ruth C. Cabaniss TUSCALOOSA Ruth C. Cabaniss of Tuscaloosa passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 3 p.m. today at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South with Rev. Alan Head and Rev. Penny Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be today from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Jack A. Cabaniss; her parents, Thomas W. and Donnie J. Gilliland; her sisters, Eulene Griffin (Bo) and Ann Gilliland; and her brother, Ted Gilliland (Ruby). She is survived by her daughter, Annette C. Sellers (Ron); her son, Al Cabaniss (Dedra); her grandchildren, Melanie S. Simopoulos (Greg) and Brian Sellers (April); her great-grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Jack, Cooper, and Aidan; and Joe and Lynne Cabiness and other family members. Ruth was born July 13, 1929, in the Moores Bridge community. Her family later came to Tuscaloosa where she graduated from Tuscaloosa High School. Many remember her Fair Electric Company days. Ruth was a wonderful, loving, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She always had a positive attitude and a friendly smile. She was an active member and volunteer at Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She had a "green thumb" and enjoyed gardening, Airstream traveling with friends, and visiting her great-grandchildren who were the apple of her eye in Mississippi and Georgia. She had a love for animals and enjoyed babysitting for her "granddogs" Maggie and Jackson. Pallbearers will be Mike O'Rear, Mark Roberts, Rusty Ward, Phillip Westbrook, David Martin, George Strickland, John Adam Page, Mike Nix, Ed Carr, and Barry Fikes. Honorary pallbearers are members of Wally Byam Caravan Club, members of Fellowship Class at Trinity, UMW members of Trinity, Gene and Lorene Watson, Bill and Martha Sue Strickland, Carol Patillo, Corrine Gordy, Emily Carr, Alice Nix, Sissy Martin, Donna Ward, Clara Bailey, Gene and Myrtle Perkins, Joyce and Grady Christian, Jimmy and Doris Morris, Sherika Hicks, Lee Hardy, Deloris Cheese, DCH TSICU nurses and staff, Dr. Brian Wilhite and staff, and Dr. Robert Slaughter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or a charity of one's choice in her honor.
