Roland Williams
MOUNDVILLE - In 2 Samuel 3:38 it is written ''And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel?" A prince and a great man fell when Roland Williams left this world and entered his heavenly home on May 8, 2018 at the age of 96. Our daddy was a gentle, kind man whose greatest pleasure was to know his family was taken care of, needs were provided, that we knew we were loved, and that Christ be glorified and honored in everything he did. In all of those he was not only a prince, but a king.
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Sara Jean Williams; his parents, Roland and Annie B. Williams; brother, Donald Williams; and sisters, Beatrice Caldow and Melba Williams.
He is survived by his sons, Dwight (Rebecca) and David (Libby) Williams; grandsons, Sam and Spencer Williams, step-granddaughter, Taber Bailey; sister, Imogene McCrory; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Bettie McCray; a host of nieces and nephews and a community of friends.
Daddy was raised in the Mt. Herman community of Greensboro. He served in the Army prior to World War II and after marriage lived the majority of his years in Moundville. A painter by occupation, he retired as a foreman from the University of Alabama. He was a faithful member of Moundville Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, training union teacher and director, chairman of deacons and deacon emeritus. In all things he never sought any personal attention but wanted people to see a reflection of Jesus.
A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018, at Moundville Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Dr. Jason Duckett and Bro. Don Springer. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin 90 minutes prior to the service. Magnolia Chapel South is handling the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Steve Caldow, Tommy Lawrence, Tony Lester, Robin McCray, Mike McCray, Randy McCrory, Eric Neill and Tim Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the A.G. Marler Sunday school class, current and past deacons of Moundville Baptist Church, Dr. Bob Grubbs, Charles and Linda Lester and Michael Lambert.
The family wishes to thank the staffs at Moundville Nursing and Rehabilitation and Hospice of West Alabama for the excellent care that was given to daddy while he was a patient there.
The Bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. We have no doubt that our daddy is now in His presence and that he was greeted with the words ""Well done, thy good and faithful servant.''
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Building Fund of Moundville Baptist Church or Hospice of West Alabama.
