Roger Allen Medford BIRMINGHAM Roger Allen Medford, age 83, of Birmingham, died Feb. 7, 2012, at St. Martin's in the Pines in Birmingham. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Historic Williamson Cemetery in Northport with Rev. Jerry Douglas, retired Presbyterian minister, officiating and Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Eldridge Medford and Ethel Barry Medford; brother, Clyde Eldridge Medford Jr.; and sister-in-law, Elsie Myers Medford. Survivors include his wife, Frances Holley Medford of Birmingham, nieces, Linda M. Evans (Ben) and Marsha Medford (Bill); brother-in-law, John W. Holley (Patricia); sister-in-law, Dorothy H. Thomson; and many nieces and nephews by marriage, of whom he was very fond. Mr. Medford graduated from St. Andrews-Sewanee School in Sewanee, Tenn., then began work at Standard Oil Company in Birmingham, Ala. During the Korean Conflict, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, and was honorably discharged after four years of service. He was stationed in one of the northernmost islands of Japan, which served as an early warming post for the United States. After returning to Birmingham, Mr. Medford continued working for Standard Oil Company, from which he retired after 43 years. Mr. Medford was a member of the Episcopal Church. He passed away at St. Martin's in the Pines after a lengthy illness. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Martin's in the Pines for their loving care of Roger.
