Richard M. Gross TUSCALOOSA | Richard M. Gross, age 80, of Tuscaloosa, died June 10, 2016, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Northport Baptist Church with Mr. Bryant McGee officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Northport Baptist Church; the body will lie in state one hour prior to service. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Harold "Bubba" Gross. Survivors include his wife, Sara Ibry Gross, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; daughters, Debra Taylor, of Atlanta, Ga., Teresa Gross, of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Patricia Lyons of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; son, Richard M. Gross, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Ala; brother, Claude Gross, of Olive Branch, Miss.; grandchildren, Angela Matthews, Wendy Alexander, Andrew Gross, Raychelle Cunningham, Amy Lyons and Charlie Lyons; and seven great grandchildren. Richard was born in Memphis, Tenn. on March 29, 1936 where he attended South Side High School, graduating in 1954. He married his wife of 61 years, Sara Irby in 1955. After moving to Birmingham in 1969 they later moved to Tuscaloosa in 1976 where he worked for Tanner Brothers, then Piggly Wiggly, and later became co-owner of Food King in Northport. He and his wife owned Richard's Market Basket in Northport, Ala. where they came to know and love many residents of Alabama. He was loved by many and his devotion and love for God, family and friends will always be remembered. Honorary pallbearers are Albert Pitts, Wayne Ford, William Boyd and Lee Guin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
