Richard "Wimpy" Barrentine, age 72, of Northport, died August 17, 2011, at Glen Haven Health and Rehab. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Montgomery and Rev. Terrell Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Samson and Lula Barrentine; two brothers, Carl and Alvis Barrentine; and two sisters, Louise Robertson and Mattie Nucklus. Survivors include his wife, Nora B.Barrentine; his daughters, Martha Traweek, Lula Goff (Bobby), and Teresa Turner (Danny); his son, Jakey Barrentine (Deborah Sellers); two sisters, Lorene Watson and Joann Kimbrell; one brother Dolphus Barrentine; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He will surely be missed. His heart was bigger than his 6'6" body. He never met a stranger nor failed to help anyone. Pallbearers will be Danny Jr., Cooper, Jonathan, Luke, J.R., Clay, Christopher, Kevin, Michael, Adam and Sidney. Honorary pallbearers are Sandy Patterson, Alacare Hospice, members of Mt. Zion Church, members of Phillips Chapel Church, Shepherds Way, Glen Haven, Earl Johnson, and Larry Colburn.
