Ray H. Chandler | MOUNDVILLE Ray H. Chandler, age 73, of Moundville, died April 3, 2011, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Moundville United Methodist Church with Rev. Reba D. Wiley officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Earl Chandler; his mother, Maude Davis Chandler; and his brothers, Thomas Earl Chandler, Jr. and James Haywood Chandler. Survivors include his wife, Grace Carroll Chandler of Moundville; his daughter, Marla Chandler Dare (Austin) of Moundville; his son, Thomas Weldon Chandler (Karla) of Tuscaloosa; his brother, John William Chandler (Ella) of Moundville; and his grandchildren, Chandler Brooke Dare, James Parker Dare, and Davis Glynn Dare, all of Moundville, and Thomas Grayson Chandler and Reese Nolen Chandler, both of Tuscaloosa. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Ray graduated from Hale County High School in 1955 and furthered his education at the University of Alabama. He retired from First South Farm Credit after 31 years of employment. After retirement, he continued his love of writing by working for the Moundville Times. Music was another passion of his, having served as organist for St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Greensboro, Ala. for over 18 years and Moundville Methodist Church for another 10 years. Pallbearers will be Danny Matherson, Bill Baker, Wallace Elliott, Ronnie Nevin, Shaun Carroll, Clint Carroll, Eddie Earl Chandler, and Larry Taylor. Honorary pallbearers are current and former employees of First South Farm Credit, employees of Moundville Times and Moundville Telephone Company, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Poole, Mr. and Mrs. Rod Kipp, Mrs. Peggy Nevin, Mrs. Peggy Ray, Mr. and Mrs. James Cole, Mr. and Mrs. Roy D. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. Barry Holliday, Dr. Larry Skelton and employees of Moundville Medical Clinic, Dr. Salem K. David, and members of Hale County High School Class of 1955. Contributions may be made to Moundville United Methodist Church or to the charity of one's choice.
