Paul Mills, Jr. passed away peacefully at Hospice of West Alabama at the age of 92 on June 11th, 2021. Paul was born on March 15th, 1929 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. He was a longtime resident of the Bethany community and a member of Bethany Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and numerous other positions for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Mae Acker Mills and parents, Paul Mills Sr, and Lucy Conner Mills. 3 sisters, Catherine Vaughn, Sarah Jones Wheat, and Nell Acker.
He is survived by his sons, Johnny (Patsy) Mills and Jim (Jackie) Mills, daughters, Brenda Vaughn, and Linda (Eddie) LaFoy all of the Bethany community, and brother, William S. Mills of Northport. Grandchildren, Allison (Ray) Townsend, James Paul (Brittany) Mills, Chad Mills, Meagan LaFoy, Connor (Shelby) Mills, Hunter Vaughn, Ryan LaFoy, Austin Vaughn, and Sam Mills. Great grandchildren, Emory and Abby Townsend and Sipsey Brooke Mills.
Pallbearers will be Ray Townsend, James Paul Mills, Chad Mills, Connor Mills, Hunter Vaughn, Ryan LaFoy, Austin Vaughn, and Sam Mills.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Debra Davis, DCH Home Health, Hospice of West Alabama, Latricia Johnson, Vicki and Dale Oney, Deacons, wives, and members of Bethany Baptist Church, Eva Patton, Maxine Watkins, Rex and Eddie Lou Tilley, Travis and Jessica Cunningham, Adam Booth, Cody Hydrick, and all of the adopted grandchildren who have spent countless hours visiting and eating at "Granddaddy's house".
Visitation will be at Bethany Baptist Church on June 14th, at 11:00 with services following at 12:00. Rev. Donald Springer and Rev. Tim Fields will be officiating with Magnolia North directing.
Paul retired from the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center where he served as supervisor of the transportation and grounds division. After retirement Paul worked for Lloyd Wood Construction Company for many years until again retiring.
Paul was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served from 20 March 1950 until 16 September 1953.
Paul enjoyed being with family and friends during holidays, vacations, weekends, birthdays, or any other occasion. He was an avid gardener and grew some of the best tomatoes, green beans, corn, and many other vegetables around. Family and friends always knew they were welcome back to his home anytime.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund, or Hospice of West Alabama.
