Paul Thomas Gonnering, age 50, of Northport, Alabama, passed away June 21, 2023, in Natural Bridge, Alabama. Visitation will 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2023, at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home Northport. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Bro. Johnny Jones officiating. Paul will be laid to rest next to his mother, LaRree, at Ridout's Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Ala. with Magnolia Chapel Northport directing.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Emma LaRree Louise Byrd Gonnering; grandparents; Leo Henry Gonnering, Elizabeth Mary McKew Gonnering, Lawrence Yelverton Byrd, Jr. and Emma L. Fetterman Byrd and his uncle; Gary Michael Gonnering.
Survivors include his wife; Lori Lynn Gonnering, father; Thomas Joel Gonnering and his wife Laura Marie, daughter; Summer Leigh Marlowe, sons; Paul Thomas Gonnering, Jr, Cameron Tyler Sellers, Gage Thomas Gonnering, sister; Michele LaRree Gonnering (Chris), brothers; Jonathan Michael Gonnering (Angela), Joshua Thomas Gonnering, grandchildren; Bentley Ross Bohon, and Emma Blayklee Bohon and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved very much.
Pallbearers will be Paul Thomas Gonnering, Jr., Cameron Tyler Sellers, Gage Thomas Gonnering, Jonathan Michael Gonnering, Joshua Thomas Gonnering, Chris Agee, Taylor Boyd and Jax Michael Gonnering.
Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Joel Gonnering, Lawrence Yelverton Byrd, Jr., Timothy Alan Gonnering, James Lee Gonnering, Robert Joseph Gonnering, Lawrence Yelverton Byrd III and James Ronald Nyberg.
Paul was a sweet and kind person who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Paul Thomas Gonnering was born to Tom and LaRree Gonnering on September 15,1972 in Largo, Florida. He attended school at Tuscaloosa Christian, Tuscaloosa County High, and graduated early from America Christian Academy. Paul was not only academically talented, but was also considered a star athlete, excelling in basketball, football, and baseball. After graduation, Paul attended Holmes Community College in Mississippi on an athletic scholarship where he played baseball. Later, he went on to have a daughter, Summer, and 3 sons, Paul JR, Tyler, and Gage whom he loved very much. He was blessed with 2 sweet grandchildren, Bentley and Blayklee, that he shares with Jamie Marlowe. They called him Pop. He was married to his wife, Lori, for many years. Paul had a witty sense of humor and a larger than life personality. He always gave strong hugs, was a good listener, and was fiercely protective of his friends and family. Paul enjoyed spending time with friends, working out, and boxing. He was a member of the Church of the Highlands in Tuscaloosa. Paul was a very determined person who faced many challenges during his life, but he always relied on his faith in God and was able to persevere through numerous struggles and hardships. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved and cared for him.
