Patricia Blackwood (nee Sperry) died peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 14th. She was with family and friends were close by in her final hours. She was born to John and Sally Sperry on November 8, 1955 in Dayton, Ohio and grew up in that area.
She was a graduate of Oakwood High School and left to attend the Memphis Academy of Art. She lived several places around the country and in 2012 returned to Tuscaloosa.. She remained there until the time of her death.
She is considered by her friends and family to have been a prolifically gifted artist in several media, not the least of which was the creativity she brought to her life. She was always joyful in sharing this with others. She was an avid reader and this was one of her great passions. She volunteered with the Friends of the Tuscaloosa Library and was also a bookseller with several thousand titles in her home when she lived in Northport.
She was in long-term recovery and helped many people over many years to find that way of life. Many of them reached out in her last days and have also shared with her family how she touched their lives.
Her wonderful sense of humor, loyalty and kindness to friends and family and her spark will be deeply missed. -There are many happy memories of her love, work and spirit that remain and will be an ongoing consolation to those who love her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her second son Charlie. She is survived by her first son Wesley Earl. Her third son Davis Gardner lived with her and was the primary support in her final illness. She is also survived by her loving brothers Rob, Jody and Chuck.
It is requested in memory of Tish, that donations be made to The Friends of the Tuscaloosa Library.
A memorial service will be held November 9th from 2:00 to 3:30 pm at the Tuscaloosa Alcanon Club at 2025 Jack Warner Parkway.
