The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to services at the church. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mabel Dean; parents, Victor and Lillie Smith; and brothers, Billie and Autry Smith, all of Northport. Survivors include his son, Orvis Smith (Deanna); daughters, Donnia Rhoden (Doug), Sondra Lollar (Sherman) and Connie Booth (Ryan Leow and Makinze), all of Northport; brother, David Smith; sisters, Carolyn Wilson, Helen Strickland and Vicky Powell, all of Northport; grandchildren, Brandy Swindle (Jonathon), Rocky Rhoden, Beau Smith, Tiffany Rhoden, Aundrea Lollar and Forest Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Chasity, Alex, Bayla, Ada and Gator. Orman was a barber in downtown Northport for 42 years. He never met a stranger. He believed in honesty. He always said ""plain talk is easy understood, just tell it like it is"". He only had a 7th grade education but was one of the smartest men you ever met. He had great wisdom. If you were around him more than five minutes you were going to learn something. One of the many things we will miss about him is his advice on farming and gardening. Orman had a strong work ethic. He believed in hard work. He said ""you'll rust out before you wear out, don't just sit around, do some work"". He believed in helping neighbors and giving people more than they ask for. Although he didn't always see himself as a Godly man, he believed in God. It was important to him for his children to go to church. Orman loved his family and he truly loved his church family and neighbors too. This simple man touched so many lives. It comforts the family to know his wisdom will be passed on for generations to come. Pallbearers will be Hanky Watson, Randy Phillips, Mark Weathers and his grandsons, Rocky, Beau and Forest. Thank you to our dear friends for the outpouring of love that was shown during his illness. Special thanks to his caregiver Brenda Montgomery, the sweet nurses at Alacare Hospice and Dr. Ann Lewis.
