Neuford Earl Combs, age 74 of Northport passed away February 28, 2024 peacefully at his residence after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. The visitation and service will be on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Magnolia Chapel South Funeral Home; 6100 Greensboro Road, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35405. The visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. with the service directed by Brian Moon following at 6:00 p.m.
Neuford was born on April 16, 1949 in Gadsden, Alabama to Nora Floyd and Ellis Glenn Combs. After his mother’s passing, he was raised in Oxford, Alabama by his Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Neuford Alford. He then graduated from Oxford High School. After graduating, he moved to Tuscaloosa to work for his brother Glenn Combs in the construction industry. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Vicki Rodriguez. A year after marriage, they started a family by welcoming their first daughter Keyna Combs and later their son Jason Combs. Soon after starting his family, Neuford established his own construction company. Combs Construction Inc. became one of Tuscaloosa’s most prominent building groups. Neuford went on to build several well-known restaurants, apartments, other businesses, and homes throughout Tuscaloosa and the United States. He then entered into the scrap metal business with his son and had many years of success. Neuford was a role model for many through his work ethics. He was also known for his generosity towards his family and friends. His big heart for others gave him the nickname, “The Gentle Giant.”
He was preceded in death by his aunt, Dorothy Combs Alford; uncle, Neuford Guess Alford; mother, Nora Floyd; father, Ellis Combs; brother, Glenn Combs; sisters, Gail Caldwell and Sheila Combs.
Survivors include his wife Vicki Rodriguez Combs; daughter, Keyna Vialpando (Val); son, Jason Combs (Laura); sister, Patsy Eslinger (Gary); brother, James Combs (Sandra); grandchildren, Vincent, Victoria, and Zoey Vialpando, Cooper, Emory, and Claire Combs; sister-in-law, Linda Combs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
