Nell Middlebrook Musgrove | TUSCALOOSA Nell Middlebrook Musgrove, age 97, of Tuscaloosa, died Aug. 1, 2010. A family graveside service will be held at Oakhill Cemetery in Prattville on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, where she will be laid to rest, followed by a memorial service to celebrate her life in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church in Prattville at 11:00 a.m. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South is in charge of arrangements. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mabel Middlebrook and Madge Middlebrook Sherling, and by her beloved husband, Maury Graham Musgrove. She is survived by her son, Maury Graham Musgrove, Jr. (Camilla) of Tuscaloosa; her daughter, Melinda Musgrove Chapman of Birmingham; five grandchildren, David Chapman (Lindy) of Frankfurt, Germany, Jennifer Chapman Dominici (Thel) of Portsmouth, Va., Brook Chapman Brittain Shvaitser (Kfir) of Birmingham, Ellen Musgrove Hester of Tuscaloosa, and Anne Musgrove Ponder (Frank) of Lanett, Ala.; seven great-grandchildren, Davis, Katie, Ashley, and Harrison Chapman, Eden and Anna Brittain, and Logan Hester; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Musgrove was born on January 28, 1913. Nell graduated from Enterprise High School at age 16 and attended Huntington College for one year. She transferred to the University of Alabama where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, majored in Home Economics, and became a lifelong fan of the Crimson Tide. After graduating, she taught school in Enterprise, spent a year working in New York and then used her major to travel for the State of Alabama, teaching nutritional education. She married Graham Musgrove of Prattville in 1940 and they moved to Birmingham where they raised their family. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. In the late 1950s she began a long and successful career in real estate, at one time co-owning her own company. After her retirement, she settled in Tuscaloosa to be near her son and his family. The family wants to extend special thanks to the staff at Pine Valley Retirement Community where she lived for many years and to the staff at Martinview Assisted Living where she spent the last year of her life. Their care for her has been extraordinary, and we will be forever grateful. The family would like to thank Amedisys Home Health and Hospice for all your loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Noah's Ark Preschool at St. Mark Methodist Church in Northport.
