Myrtle Seale Singley Nevin, age 89, of Moundville, died Aug. 29, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 10 a.m. today at Moundville United Methodist Church with Rev. Reba Wiley officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Nevin; and teenage son, Kendall Wayne Nevin. Survivors include her son, Ronald Nevin (Peggy); granddaughter, Tammy Nevin Latham (Kevin); great-grandson, Noah Latham; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Myrtle started her journey of faith early in life as a member of Ramey's Chapel United Methodist Church and later with Moundville United Methodist Church, where she became active serving. She used her talents in the wardrobe department at the Easter Sunrise Pageant. She was the second person to design and sew the Christus robe, as well as costumes for other special characters. Myrtle was an active member of the Oak Hill Cemetery Association, serving as treasurer for 20 years. Myrtle had a zest for living and learning, trying to learn something new every day. Myrtle was also a collector, keeping old and new clippings and memorabilia. Growing up in the Depression Era, she learned in her quiet and unassuming manner how to do for others and tried to lift other peoples' spirits in her hidden humor, which those around her learned to appreciate. She believed in saving things and not wasting anything because you "just might need it". Myrtle was always finding ways to use old things in new ways. Myrtle was a kind-hearted and loving lady who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Pallbearers will be Kevin Latham, Dr. George Miller, Dr. John Miller, Billy Nevin, Chuck Nevin, Russ Nevin, Nevin Tidmore, and Billy Stokes. Honorary pallbearers are members of Moundville United Methodist Women, members of Quest Club, and friends both far and near. The family would like to recognize special caregivers Carrie Ball, Lisa Blackburn, Pam Harris, Ada Jimerson, Brenda Lawrence, and Marie Marcus; yard caretaker Pete Vawters; hospice nurses Betty, Cassandra, and Joy; hospice case manager Cile; and social worker Allison. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Moundville United Methodist Church, Oak Hill Cemetery Association, Hospice of West Alabama, and Ramey's Chapel United Methodist Church.
