Milton Elbert Sims Northport/ Milton Elbert Sims, age 83, of Northport died December 30, 2015 at home. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Northport Church of Christ begining at 1:00pm. The funeral service will follow at 3:00pm with Bryant Evans, Charles Sleiner and Charles Lollar officiating. Burial will follow at Williamson Cemetery in Northport with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Milton is preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Clark Sims. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patsy, his sons, Clark Sims (Tracie) and Bert Sims (Melody) ; grandchildren; Kelly Sims (Megan), Hunter Sims, Christian Sims, Anna Grace Sims, Bess Sims and Lilly Sims all of his family resides in Northport. Milton is also survived by a number of dear relatives,close friends and a loving church family. Milton made his life in Tuscaloosa County, marrying Patsy and raising his family in Northport. Milton served as manager of the Gulf States Paper Mill Credit Union and retired as comptroller for the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education. He called himself a "worn out bookkeeper." A coworker described him in retirement as "integrity walking out the door ." He was blessed with close to 20 years of healthy living in retirement and helping assit in the raising of all his grandchildren. Milton did not travel much or really have any hobbies, though he did enjoy walking at the University Mall with his friends. He chose, along with his wife, to devote his life to his family and the church. All who were touched by him were blessed. We are all challenged to follow his wonderful example and be a part of his legacy. Pallbearers will be Robert Youngblood, Mark Waldrop, Greg Farris, Lance Lollar, Brent Mingle, Luke Waldrop, Tavares Cook, Jeremy Reeves and David Coleman. Honorary pallbearers include members of the North Tuscaloosa Church of Christ, where he was a member, the Cottondale Church of Christ, the Northport Church of Christ, Coworkers at the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education and Gulf States Paper Mill Credit Union, the graduating class of 1950 at Tuscaloosa High School, Doug Hollyhand, Jimmy and Sara Smith, Duane and Dana Brewer, Joe and Barbara Davis, Dr. Ross Vaughn, Dr. Demetri Zak and the staff of Tuscaloosa Internal Medicine, Cancer Center of Tuscaloosa, DCH Home Health and Hospice of West Alabama. Memorials can be made to the building fund of the North Tuscaloosa Church of Christ, where Milton was a charter member, at PO Box 2333 Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35453 or to Childhaven Children's Home in Cullman, Alabama at PO Box 2070 Cullman, Alabama 35056.
