Melvin King Durrett EUTAW | Melvin King Durrett, age 86, of Eutaw, Ala., died April 22, 2016. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016, in Mesopotamia Cemetery in Eutaw, Ala. with Reverend Deborah E. Born officiating and Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at Eutaw Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fulton G. Durrett and Dorothy King Durrett. Survivors include his wife, Ernestelle Parker Durrett of Eutaw, Ala.; daughter, Lisa Durrett Hailey (Joe) of Lookout Mountain, Tenn.; son, Russell Parker Durrett (Maija) of Bloomfield Hills, MI., sisters, Margaret D. Wascomb of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Evelyn D. Yeager (Thomas) of Eutaw, Ala.; grandchildren, Martha Elizabeth Durrett, Theodore Parker Durrett, Parker Sellers Hailey and Mitchell Scobell Hailey. Melvin was born June 6, 1929 in Eutaw. He lived his life in Eutaw and was a lifetime member and trustee of Eutaw Baptist Church. He served on the Eutaw City Council, retired from Alabama National Guard as a Lt. Colonel and was an employee and officer of Merchants and Farmers Bank for 57 years. Melvin Graduated from Greene County High School, Auburn University and served two years active military service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greene County Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 431, Eutaw, Alabama, 35462 or to the church of your choice.
