Mary Yawn Davis

Mary Yawn Davis went to Heaven peacefully at the age of 71, on August 21,2024 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She was born on February 2, 1953 in Augusta, GA to William Henry and Queet Mattie Yawn.

Mary grew up near West Palm Beach with her brother Mark. In school, she was a straight A student, cheerleader, and loved going to the beach.

Mary's passion for nursing started with her associates degree at Palm Beach State Junior College and she began her career at JFK Memorial. She ended up moving to Tuscaloosa where she received her Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Alabama. During her 40+ year tenure at DCH of Northport and Tuscaloosa she was highly respected serving predominantly in the Emergency Department (14 years) and SpineCare (20+ years). She made a lasting impact on her patients and colleagues alike.

In 1982, Mary met Don Davis in trauma bay number 5 while they were both working. After marrying in 1983, they went on to have two children, Julia and John William. She always loved supporting them during all their hobbies and interests.

Mary loved her family, fellowship with friends, and traveling (especially to the beach). She was faithful follower of Christ and a member of St. Mark Church for over 40 years. She served on the church medical team and loved being a part of the Agape Sunday School class.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Donald Clifton Davis; two children, Julia Nicholson (Joe Bedwell), and John William Davis (Virginia); and 5 beloved grandchildren, Luke and Elena Nicholson, Caroline Davis, William and Grant Bedwell. Also surviving is her brother, Mark Yawn (Media); her sisters-in-law, Nan Denton (Howard), Joanne Willaert (Mark), and Debbie Davis; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Queet Yawn; her in-laws, John and Alta Davis; brother-in-law, Captain Carroll Davis; and son-in-law, Tandy Nicholson, Jr.
