Martha Johns

Martha D. Johns was born April 30, 1932 in Midland City, Alabama to Clevie and Lonnie Lisenby. She married James November 10, 1953 in Illinois. Martha is proceeded in death by her husband James, son Ronnie and son-in-law Rick Hibbard. She is survived by her daughter Debra Hibbard, son Don Johns, grandchildren Tara Smothers (Danny), Ricky Hibbard (Alisha), great-grandchildren Erin Smothers, Riley and Ashton Hibbard. She leaves behind also many that loved her. Her husband was in the Army, so they lived in several different states in the US, and they also lived in Italy for 3 years. After James retired from the Army in 1964, they moved back to Alabama. When they moved back to Alabama, Martha began working at Sears, where she would also retire from. At her time at Sears, she made so many life long friends and some she would call family. Martha was an Alabama fan and loved watching the games so she could cheer on the Tide. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world. She and James loved taking their grandchildren on vacation, especially to the beach, where they would sometimes stay down there for a month at times. She loved having her great-grandchildren spend the night with her often and she always wanted them to stay as long as they could. Martha was the type of person who always wanted to help people, no matter what it was. She was involved in various charities like Shriners Hospital for Children, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, American Heart Association, and Disable Veterans. She loved to sew and dance. She had a passion for cooking. If you stopped by for a visit, she would always ask if she could fix you something to eat. On certain holidays, she always made candy, and everyone"s favorite, fudge. She loved being outdoors. If it was a beautiful day outside, you would find her outside in her garden, or on her back deck having a picnic with one (or all) of her great-grandchildren. There are not enough words to describe how amazing Martha was. She was definitely one of a kind, and her love for her family and others that knew her will always be cherished and we will always carry all the wonderful memories of her in our hearts. We all know she is always going to watch over us, and that she is fully healed. Heaven has truly gained an angel.
