Marshal Don Surratt passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020, at Heritage Health Care and Rehab. With him was his wife of 20 years, Ann Prentice, with whom he had visited many foreign countries, either to support her consulting with academics at numerous universities or to enjoy experiencing other cultures. Born in Plainview, Texas, he was a graduate of the University of Texas and was involved in the academic publishing business for many years.
Upon his retirement in 2000, he and Ann followed his love of sailing and spent and spent four years living and sailing in the Caribbean. Upon their return to the U.S they continued to sail along the east coast from Florida to New York and along inland waterways up the Hudson River, into Lake Ontario, along the St. Lawrence River, south through Lake Champlain and back to North Carolina, where they then lived. He and Ann moved to Tuscaloosa in 2014.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Prentice. He is also survived by three children; Debbie Minardi, Cherry Gray, and Morris Don Surratt Brown all of whom live in Dallas, Texas area, as do his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no memorial service and his ashes will be spread over the nearest of the seven seas.
