Marianne Barnett Chappell TUSCALOOSA Marianne Barnett Chappell age 76, died at Hospice of West Alabama on August 2, 2013. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. John Vercigilio and Rev. John Drawhorn officiating and Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emory Barnett and Eunice Barton Barnett; and one sister, Jane Bytell. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Russ Chappell; one daughter, Karen Gates (Rick); two sons, Russ Jr. (Chrissy) and Richard (Pinkie) of Northport; six grandchildren, Chelsie and Tyler Gates, Ryan, Carlie, Briana and Sara Chappell; and one brother, James Barnett of Sanford, Fla. Marianne was born on February 7, 1937 in Tuscaloosa. She graduated from TCHS in 1955 and attended the University of Alabama. She worked at Central Foundry for 15 years and retired from Affiliated Paper Company (Afflink) in 2001. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, McCollum Sunday School class and Martha Subgroup. She was a devoted wife and caring mother who dearly loved her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in activities and sports. Pallbearers will be Ryan Chappell, Tyler Gates, Randall Gibson, John Bostick, Matt Hollub, and Norman Carlson. Honorary pallbearers are St. Mark United Methodist Church McCollum Sunday School Class and Martha Subgroup, neighbors of The Oaks, TCHS class of 1955, Joyce Andrews, Dr. David Hinton and staff of DCH Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center, Tammala Spencer, Elaine Huffman, and Steve Goodman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Mark United Methodist Church or Hospice of West Alabama.
