Marian Watts

Marian Attwood Watts Tuscaloosa/ Marian Attwood Watts, age 92, of Tuscaloosa, went home December 30, 2015. Services will be 1pm Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Lovett and Rod Poovey officiating and Magnolia Chapel South in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Watts; sister, Harriett A. Lewis; brother, George F. Attwood; parents, George and Dean Attwood; and infant daughter Donna A. Watts. Survivors include her daughters; Karen Watts McCombs (Wade) of Gardendale and Kaye Watts Ridgeway (Miles) of Tuscaloosa; son, James L. Watts, Jr. (Paula) of Northport; grandchildren, Lance Hocutt (Celeste), Leslie Hocutt, Tyler Ridgeway (Carrie) and Adam Ridgeway; great grandchildren; Maggie, Laney, Will and Jamie Hocutt and Mia, Lola and Lexi Ridgeway. Mrs. Watts was born in 1923 in Decatur, Illinois to George and Dean Attwood. She moved with her family to Tuscaloosa at the age of five. She married James in 1943 and together they had three children, Karen, Kaye and James. She was a past member of First Christian Church and a dedicated member of Calvery Baptist Church. In her younger years, she played fast pitch softball for the West End Girls and the Gulf States Paper Mill Girls teams. She later played with the Birmingham WOCO-Pep team in two national tournaments. In 1983, she was the first female inducted into the West Softball Hall of Fame and was later inducted into the Alabama Softball Hall of Fame. She was an avid Alabama football and softball fan as well as a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves.
