MARGUERITE KIRKSEY POOLE
EUTAW - Marguerite Kirksey Poole, May 27, 1919-February 24, 2018, of Eutaw, Alabama, daughter of the late Wallace Stuart Kirksey and Laura Gardner Kirksey of Aliceville, Alabama died at home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Clifton Poole, Jr.; her siblings, Wallace Kirksey, Edwina Persons, Mary Emily Sparkman and her grandson, Clifton Stuart Poole.
Marguerite was a member of Eutaw United Methodist Church. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing beautiful clothes and providing delicious meals for her family. Her jam cake with caramel icing was one of the most popular at church bake sales.
Visiting with her sisters and Mother Dear and playing bridge and Scrabble with long- time friends were favorite pastimes. In her younger days, she was an active member of the Eutaw Arts Club, the New Era Club and was a charter member of the Pickens County Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Marguerite is survived by her sister, Bobbie Kirksey Aicklen of Granbury, Texas; her children, Mary Wallace Dixon of Hendersonville, Tenn., Marguerite (Rita) Horton (Charlie) of Huntsville, Ala., Patricia (Patsy) Buchanan (Pete) of Mobile, Ala., James (Jim) Walter Poole (Nancy) of Eutaw, Laura Jane Rogers (David) of Mobile and Johanna McLelland (Marc) of Eutaw; and her grandchildren, Julie Sharp of Kingston, Tenn., Charles (Chuck) Horton (Melea) of Huntsville, Miriam Virginia (Ginger) Horton of Atlanta, Marguerite Buchanan Perkinson (Jon) of Orange Beach, Peter Bradford (Brad) Buchanan of Nashville, Tenn., James (Jay) Poole of Greensboro, Ala., Shirley Poole French (Jim) of Union, Ala., Katherine (Katie) Rogers of Birmingham, Elizabeth (Beth) Rogers Bundy (Shawn) of Portland, Ore., Maryanna Rogers (John Brian Kirby) of San Francisco, Calif.; David Rogers of Seattle, Wash., Clifton Durrett (Adrienne) of Knoxville, Ala., and Melissa Durrett Conners (Chris) of Tuscaloosa. She is also survived by step- grandchildren, Sharon Hill (Kerry) of Tuscaloosa and Susan Gregg (Roger) of Tuscaloosa and 23 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation at 10 a.m. and the service following at 11 a.m. will both be held at Eutaw United Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Interment will follow at Mesopotamia Cemetery in Eutaw. Marguerite's nephews, Robert Harold Sparkman and Dalton Styes, will officiate with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family expresses appreciation to their mother's dedicated care-givers; Bernice Barnes, Teresa Hunter, Emma Emmonds, Gladys Murray, Ella Williams, Beretha Bevelle and to employees of Hospice of West Alabama.
Memorial donations may be made to Greene County Ambulance Service, to Hospice of West Alabama, James C. Poole, Jr. Memorial Library, Eutaw United Methodist Church or to your favorite charity.
