Major Lee Newman TUSCALOOSA | "Life is not a journey to the grave with the intension of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to slide in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and, loudly proclaiming, "WOW! What a RIDE!" Major slid in on Wednesday December 10, 2014, after passing peacefully in his sleep. He is preceded in death, by his father and mother, Nefus L. Newman and Maxie Newman, both longtime residents of Magnolia, Miss. Survivors include his sister, Sylvia Newman Taylor (Blaine) of Salt Lake City, Utah; and his beloved, Shelia Lewis of Tuscaloosa, Ala. Services will be held on the banks of the Black Warrior River at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014. A reception will follow at Copper Top.
