Maggie H. Sudduth |NORTHPORT Maggie H. Sudduth, age 78, of Northport, died Jan. 30, 2012, at Northport Medical Center-DCH. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South with Dr. Donald Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South officiating. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one prior to services at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her father, Homer F. Hubbard; mother, Fannie B. Geddie; and husband, William Lindbergh Sudduth. Survivors include her daughters, Debra Sudduth Harkins and Robin Suzanne Sudduth; sisters, Peggy Whatley and Bonnie Langston; grandsons, Derek Austin Harkins and David Matthew Harkins; and several nieces, nephews, and first cousins. Maggie Ann Hubbard Sudduth was born July 6, 1933. She attended St. John Catholic School, Stafford School, Tuscaloosa Jr. High School, and Tuscaloosa High School. Mrs. Sudduth married William Lindbergh Sudduth, who was the youngest of 12 children, on July 14, 1951. Her father, Homer F. Hubbard, was a Tuscaloosa City Policeman killed in the line of duty on May 10, 1952. She worked for 13 years at Allen & Jemison as a secretary and at Owen Meredith Insurance Co. in the business office. She worked lastly as Head Hostess for more than 19 years at the Gorgas House on the University of Alabama campus. She became involved with the Tuscaloosa Genealogical Society, serving as Secretary and then President. She published a total of 26 genealogy books. She worked as church secretary at Circlewood Baptist Church in 1981 after coming back home to take care of her ailing mother. Pallbearers will be Austin Harkins, Matthew Harkins, Jimmy Campbell, Henry Allen, Johnny Windham, Duane Riner, Gene Whatley, and Gregg Farris. Honorary pallbearers are Tuscaloosa High School class of 1950, members of Forest Lake Baptist Church, Idlewood neighbors, staff of University Family Practices, and the caring staff of Merrill Gardens.
