Loy Dewitt Williams, Jr passed away from this life (September 1, 2018) to his eternal home in Heaven to be with his Savior Jesus Christ. Services will be held on Tuesday September 4, 2018 at 10:00 0m at Magnolia Chapel North with Herb Johnson officiating and Magnolia Chapel North directing. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 am prior to the service, at the funeral home. LD is NOT going to Heaven because of church denomination, earning his way to heaven by good deeds, works, or being a good man……..He's going to Heaven because of FAITH, and Faith alone in Jesus who is the Son of God who willingly shed His blood and sacrificed HIS life for LD's…….He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at 18 years of age during revival at Belk Freewill Baptist Church in Fayette County, AL. He is a member of Northport Baptist Church. LD was remarkably healthy most of his life, loved gardening and was full of years, dying at 91 years of age…….
LD was born January 3, 1927, the only son of Loy Dewitt Williams and Mary Alice Stanley Williams, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by wives Rose Mary Abernathy Simmons, Betty Drummond and son Clyde Simmons, Jr.
LD is survived by 3-sons………. Michael Karl Williams (Lisa), Timothy Mark Williams, and Randy Loy Williams (Rachel) He is also survived by a granddaughter, Valerie Loy Hargrove (Jimmy), John Anthony Portera (Loni), and Sarah Portera Bryan (Matt). Great Grandsons Jack Oliver Hargrove and Payne Bryan and Great Granddaughters Sarah Isabella Portera, Ella Portera and Hannah Klutts.
LD was raised on a farm during the depression off Beaver Creek Road outside Belk, AL. He attended Belk School and later graduated from Fayette County High School in Fayette, AL in 1945. He had many nickname….. "Junior", "Loy", "LD" and "Joe"
LD began work for the Alabama Highway Department cutting right of ways for 35 cents/ hr. LD performed many jobs. From ditch digger, truck driver, bookkeeper, inspector, instrument man and project engineer. The span of his career was 47 years completing his career as Assistant Division Engineer in Tuscaloosa.
LD said this…."I don't desire nor envy the big expensive THINGS that some desire and spend all their efforts to acquire. If you have God, health, decent modest income and ability to go and do whatever you like to do, you have just about all".
