Louise Hughes TUSCALOOSA Louise Hughes, age 94, of Tuscaloosa, died Sept. 12, 2012, at Morning Pointe of Tuscaloosa. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery with Rev. Winston Brooks officiating and Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Herbert Hughes; her parents, Alice Chitwood Carnes and Thomas Jefferson Carnes; and her brothers, Wilburn Carnes, Wilson Carnes, and Joseph Carnes. Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Hughes Petitt (Bruce), Dr. Pamela Hughes, and Frances Lawrence (Larry); her sons, Herbert Hughes (Charlotte), Tom Hughes (Cindy), Mark Hughes (Sheila), and Kim Hughes (Gina); her brother, T.J. Carnes of Albertville; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Mother was a medical social worker for 20 years, retiring at age 73. In 1962, Mother was widowed with seven children. At that time, she enrolled in college for the first time and ultimately obtained a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama. Following retirement, she moved to Tuscaloosa and enjoyed playing bridge at the University Club and loved her neighbors at Maple Ridge. Mother loved her children and adored her grandchildren. She was an amazing lady with incredible strength and determination. We will miss her deeply. After 50 years without our dad, she has now reunited with him. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are staff at Morning Pointe, Jerry and Sandra Simpson, Steve and Debbie Kennedy, and Marianne Tipton.
