TUSCALOOSA - Lottie May (Polly) Powell Elliott, 86, of Tuscaloosa died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be at 3pm on Thursday, March 24 at Magnolia South Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Powell officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. O. (Ottis) Elliott, parents, Thomas M. and Charlotte Leavelle Powell, an infant son, Wayne and great grandson, Clayton Hartley. Also preceding her in death were brothers Milton Powell, Bill Powell, Thomas Powell and James Powell and sisters Mary Black, Emma Watson, Josie Edgeworth and Roberta Powell. Polly is survived by her daughters Kathy Anders (Mike) and Debbi West (Charlie) and grandchildren James Hartley, John Hartley, Emily West-Kalb and Brad West. She is also survived by a sister, Sarah Weller. Survivors also include great grandchildren Mayci Hartley, Jayci Kalb and Drake Kalb, special daughter Linda Roberts and special grandchildren Ann Weeden, Elliott and Brian Roberts and special great grandchildren Alec and Sam. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Polly. Polly Elliott"�s life was centered on her church, her family and her community. She was a long-time member of Cottondale Christian Church. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and was well known for her delicious pound cake. She and Ottis loved cooking fish and hushpuppies for their neighbors and sharing vegetables grown in their garden. She served her community by working at the ball field in Cottondale. Polly enjoyed Bowling, Dixie Youth Baseball and University of Alabama Women"�s Softball. She was a poll worker and also worked at Holiday Dreams. Polly was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as a Mother Advisor to the Rainbow Girls. She was a gardener and especially liked growing flowers. Those who worked with her were inspired by her loving and sweet nature. During the last year of her life she and her two daughters made over 1,000 dresses for children in Uganda, Columbia and Haiti. She was dedicated to her Christian work and said that, "It gives my life a purpose"�. Pallbearers are Curt Elliott, Brian Roberts, Elliott Roberts, Keith Elliott, Sammy Watson, Brad West, James Hartley and Drake Kalb. Honorary Pallbearers include the 6th floor nursing staff at DCH, Forest Manor staff, residents and staff of Pine Valley, neighbors at Cottonwood Park, neighbors at Ashland, friends of Cottondale Dixie Youth Baseball, Lucy Taylor, staff of Hospice of West Alabama and Dr. Ross Vaughn. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Polly"�s memory to Hospice of West Alabama or Cottondale Christian Church.
