Lizell Savage

Lizell Burton Savage was born on June 5, 1935 to Eddie and Ella Burton in Porterville, Kemper County, Mississippi. The Lord called Lizell home to glory on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Jefferson Place Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
Lizell attended public school in Porterville, Mississippi. As a teen She moved from Porterville, to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where she journeyed on to Westchester, New York in 1958. In New York she pursued her passion for cosmetology and graduated from Mt. Vernon College of Cosmetology. With tenacity and determination, she succeeded in business as a self-employed cosmetologist. She retired from the cosmetology after 40 years in the profession. In December 2015, she left the New York and moved to Louisville, Kentucky with her daughter where she fellowshipped and participated in activities at Oak and Acorn Senior Center.
Mother Savage was baptized, as a young lady, confessed her faith in God, and made a commitment to Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was a member of Emanuel Pentecostal Faith Temple in Mount Vernon, New York under the pastorate of the late Rev. Leon Dixon where she served on the Usher Board, the choir, and numerous church committees. Mother Savage's spiritual journey led her on to her beloved, New Life Missionary Baptist Church, in Mount Vernon, New York under the pastorate of Rev. Joseph Brown and the late Dr. Rev. Mary Joe Young where she remained a dedicated member. She was a Deaconess, member of the Usher Board, Senior Choir, Pastor's Aid, a Missionary, and a Mother of the Church. In Louisville she attended the family church, Canaan Christian.
Mother Savage was united in holy matrimony to Lovell Savage on January 24, 1976, they reared two boys and two girls. She had a fun-loving and competitive spirit. She loved baseball especially the NY Mets and as a young girl she was a member of her school's Softball Team. She was an accomplished, bowler and a member of several different bowling leagues. She participated in several hair show competitions throughout the states of New York and New Jersey and she loved to participate in family board games.
Mother Savage always took immense pride in her appearance. She always made sure she was well dressed, her hair styled, and her nails manicured. She had a great smile and when she greeted you, she always gave you a kiss and a hug. She was also a good cook and according to her grandchildren made the best yams known to man. She was a wise, kind, loving woman, with a heart as big as the sky. Everyone loved her. She will be missed but her love and legacy will live on through ever person she touched.
Mother Savage will be loved forever. Her memories of life will by cherished by her loving and devoted, two daughters, two sons, seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers, five sisters, and one daughter.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Magnolia Chapel South at 1:00 pm with Rev. Edric Gowdy, Sr. officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at the chapel.
