Lester Lynn Watkins

Lester Lynn Watkins, age 74, of Samantha, Ala., passed away at home Friday, February 21, 2025. Services will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Arbor Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Griffin, Pastor Terry Joe Oswalt, and Pastor Pat Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the church.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sheila; children, Chad Watkins (Jennifer) of Foley, Ala., Ginger Roberts of Samantha, Leo Watkins of Samantha, and Kobe Watkins (Leah) of Berry, Ala.; grandchildren, Cooper and Colton Watkins, Max Roberts, Khloe and Hunter Watkins; siblings, Jeanie Norris, Joan Shepherd (Macon), Midge Baker (Edward), and Bob Watkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, June Gant (Pete) and Wanda Kline (Mike). 

Lynn was born in Berry, Alabama to Henry B. and Margaret Cole Watkins on December 17, 1950. He attended Berry Elementary through 6th grade, then the family moved to Samantha where he attended Northside High School. After graduation, Lynn fulfilled an apprenticeship as a sheet-metal journeyman and master welder out of Local 48 in Birmingham. He worked in the trade for 36 years where he formed many lasting friendships. 

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and camping with family and friends.

Lynn was a wonderful caring husband, father, and Pop to his family. He was a faithful and active member of Arbor Springs Baptist Church serving as deacon and wherever needed. He enjoyed coaching Northside Little League baseball teams for several years. 

Pallbearers will be Leo Watkins, Kobe Watkins, Max Roberts, Cooper Watkins, Colton Watkins, and Ben Baker.

Honorary pallbearers are Deron Banks, Steve Hutson, Jerry Jarrell, Amy, Braxton, Alyssa and Diane.
