Leon Mervin Vaughn
NORTHPORT } Leon M. Vaughn, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 14, 2018 at Hospice of West Alabama.
Born in Athens, GA., he made his way to Meridian, MS. where he met and married the love of his life, Bobbie Jean Morgan. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, his daughter; Leslie Vaughn Godfrey, granddaughter; Ariane Godfrey (Forrest Tillery), his grand dog; Ray Jay and his sister; Rhonda S. Davis of Bogart, GA.
He was our renaissance man. There was nothing he could not or would not do for his girls. He was a Korean War Veteran, talented musician (just ask Elvis) with a mechanical mind and an amazing sense of humor. His hobbies included music, traveling the world with his wife, Alabama football, and dancing. He was a collector of old nails, old wood and old tools. While in Tuscaloosa, he worked for McAbee Construction and retired from the University of Alabama. After retirement they resided in Hoover, AL. for 15 years. He was a member of The Rogues Dance Club, Vikings Dance Club and a Charter member of Tuscaloosa Ballroom Dance Club and enjoyed dancing at the Northport Community Center. This is a sorrowful time for those that knew and loved him, but we know he is playing piano with his heavenly family.
There will be a military graveside service announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family request donations to be made to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are being handled by Magnolia Chapel North.
