Ted was born in Hamilton, Alabama and lived in Tupelo, Mississippi prior to his family's move to Northport, Alabama, to establish the Bama Exterminating Company. Ted entered TCHS for his senior year of high school, and quickly staked out a place as one of the most popular seniors, being elected not only Mr. Citizenship, but Most Handsome, as well. And, he immediately won the reciprocated admiration and affection of Betty Oxford, a junior. They married the next year as soon as Betty graduated, and celebrated their 60th anniversary last December.
Ted graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. degree, followed three years later with his LLB law degree in 1964. He practiced law in Northport for a number of years and also served as City Attorney for several of those years.
After leaving private law practice, Ted was employed as Attorney for Phifer Wire Products, serving in several different capacities, including the Legal Department and also Human Resources. He retired from Phifer in 2006 after 30 years of service.
Throughout this time he was very active in the Tuscaloosa Civitan Club and Phoenix House. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Northport Hospital, and was a very active member of the University Church of Christ, serving as a deacon and later as an elder for 25 years.
A thoughtful reader and thinker, Ted loved God and his family: his wife, Betty; son, David; daughter, Nancy, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren above all.
A gentle giant of a man, with a uniquely quiet manner, and possessed with an amazing sense of humor and gentle spirit, Ted will be dearly missed by all.
