Laura Jane Biedermann (Lollie) Smith, age 86, of Tuscaloosa, died April 6 , 2014, at Tradition"�s Way of Capstone Village. Services will be Wednesday, April 9th at 2:00, at First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa with the Revs. Dan Kilgore and Bill Bostick officiating, and Magnolia Chapel South directing. The family will receive visitors at FUMC in the Parker Fireside Room one hour prior to the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Frances Biedermann, and her husband of 46 years, Haynes S. Smith, Sr. Survivors include her three sons - Stephen Sr. and his wife, Carole Smith of Tuscaloosa AL , Haynes Jr. and his wife, Lindy Smith of Decatur, AL and Randall Smith of Tuscaloosa, AL.; four grandchildren: Stephen Jr. and his wife, Allison Smith of Metairie, LA, Laura Smith of Decatur, AL, Leigh Anna Smith, of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Leslie Smith of Decatur, AL. Laura Jane Smith was born in Tuscaloosa, AL on March 14, 1928. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School, and The University of Alabama with a degree in Home Economics. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, and played on the only women"�s football team - the Honey Bowl - from 1945-1947. She married Haynes Smith in 1950, and enjoyed many years of raising three sons, plus a career beginning at The Tuscaloosa County Courthouse in the license department, followed by substitute teaching with the City School system, and was an avid Alabama Sports fan. In her retirement years, she and Haynes enjoyed outings with the Airstream Club, was a poll worker, and travelled extensively. She was a founding member of the Lee Bible Sunday School class, and was active in the United Methodist Women"�s Group for over 60 years, where she spearheaded the annual Thanksgiving Dinner and Bazaar. Honorary pallbearers are Lee Scott, Ed Graves, Hugh Stegall, Bill Smith, Chris Kyle, Josh Davis, and the members of the Lee Bible Sunday School Class. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of Traditions Way at Capstone Village for their loving care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the FUMC United Methodist Women, 800 Greensboro Avenue, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401 , or your favorite charity.
