Kenneth Phillips

Kenneth Charles Phillips, age 75, of Northport, AL passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at DCH Tuscaloosa. Services will be Tuesday, November 21st at 2 p.m. at Magnolia Chapel North with Rev. Jerry Montgomery officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by mother, Loyal Baker Maddox and Girlie and Effie Phillips; son, Chuck Phillips; sisters, Judy Walker and Linda Bennett. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Gail Smith Phillips; son, Brian Keith Phillips (Paige); daughter, Mindy Phillips Sexton (Jason Fair); granddaughters, Peyton Phillips, Samantha (Sammie) Phillips, and Jocelyn Williams; grandson, Brylan Sexton and his father Kevin Sexton; precious mother-in-law Bessie Smith; and sisters-in-law, Judy Mayo and Betty Hunter. Kenneth grew up in the Brownville community. He was a talented musician and played many instruments including the banjo which everyone loved to hear him play. He had a love for gospel and bluegrass music. He retired with 25 years of fire service from Northport Fire and Rescue. He built the Old Time Fireman Lodge, a place that combined his love for music and community, for all to enjoy. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Mayo, Jeff Blake, Larry Bailey, Harry Montgomery, James Roy Rogers, Vernon Skinner, Damon Ligon, Larry Couch, Larry Walker, Jeff Walker, Trey Tumminello, Jason Strickland, Susan Blake, Leah Yeates, Candice Fowler, Northport Fire & Rescue, and Tuscaloosa Fire & Rescue.
