Joseph Aaron Robertson TUSCALOOSA Joseph Aaron Robertson, age 79, passed away peacefully August 8, 2013, at Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. A military graveside service will be 5 p.m. today, August 10, 2013, at Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Rock Stone officiating and Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Macedonia United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents J.D. Robertson and Myra Marie Robertson; sister, Marjorie Hocutt; and brothers, Edward Robertson and Billy Robertson. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sirley Bolton Robertson; his daughter, Pamela Simpson and her husband Tom; his sons, Andre Brian Robertson and Joseph Duane Robertson and his wife Jan; his sister, Nancy Patton; and his grandchildren whom he cherished dearly - Mary Elizabeth Robertson, Emily Teresa Simpson, William Aaron Robertson, and John Patrick Simpson. Joe graduated from Gorgas High School in 1952. He was a soldier in the Army and served during the Korean War. He was in the 5th Cavalry Regiment and spent several months in Japan. Later he worked for B.F. Goodrich Michelin in Tuscaloosa, where he retired after thirty-five years of service. Joe was a long-time member of Macedonia United Methodist Church and the Tuscaloosa County Farmers Market. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time outside looking at God's beautiful creation. Joe was always eager to share his love of farming with his children and grandchildren. He was known throughout the community for his delicious tomatoes. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Templen Price and Ronald Price, and his friends Hillary Shirley, Harold Reece, Dennis Boswell, Steven Shirley, and Brandon Booth. Honorary pallbearers are Macedonia Methodist Church family, Carrols Creek Community, Gorgas High School Class of 1952-53, employees of B. F. Goodrich Michelin, and doctors, nurses, and staff at Eagles Cove and Honors Way at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Macedonia Methodist Church or Eagles' Wings. Joe treasured his time spent with family, church family, and especially his grandchildren. He will remain In our hearts forever as a devoted, loving, caring husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his Heavenly Father, and he loved his country. As we cover you in red, white, and blue, we see a flag in our hearts, but know you are covered with God's grace and righteousness. We will miss you and we know you are dressed for work in God's garden now.
