John D. Lavender MOUNDVILLE - John D. Lavender, age 89, of Moundville, died July 27, 2016, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Moundville United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Curtin officiating. Burial will follow in Havana United Methodist Church Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Moundville United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Lavender and Janie Tucker Lavender; wife, Janie Nettles Lavender; and sisters, Alda Lavender and Gesner Windham. Survivors include his sons, Jim Lavender (Debbie), Sam Lavender and Tom Lavender; grandchildren, Ryan Lavender, Hunter Schultz, Cody Schultz, Julie Melton and Jenny Alberson; and four great-grandchildren. John was a lifelong cotton farmer in Tuscaloosa and Hale counties. He was a member of the Tuscaloosa County Farmers Federation for over 50 years. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Nevin, Abe Cook, Crum Cook, Johnny Nettles, George Tucker, Mac Cook, Joe Anders and Grady Bobo. Honorary pallbearers are Tuscaloosa County Farmers Federation, Dr. Larry Skelton, Peggy Nevin, Teresa King, Ronnie Rhodes and the staff of Pam's Diner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Moundville United Methodist Church.
