John Hallman

John L. "JL" Hallman, age 67, of Tuscaloosa, went to be with the Lord May 18, 2011, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Graveside Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Dr. Herbert Thomas officiating and Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Mordecai and Gertrude Hallman. Survivors include his wife, Melba S. Hallman; his sisters, Hilda Burns (Aubrey) and Jimmie Nell Simmons (Jack); his nieces, Jennifer McDowell (Matt) of Virginia and Stephanie Geer (Ricky) of Tuscaloosa; and his nephews, Dicky Weaver (Sheila) and Jason Simmons (Jennifer), both of Tuscaloosa. JL served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was retired from Hunt Refining Company. He was a member of Circlewood Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Tuscaloosa. JL enjoyed spending time at the beach and observing God's handiwork in nature. The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Brian Wilhite, Dr. Anne Lewis, Dr. Pedro Lopez, and all the extraordinary nurses and staff of the Cardiac Care Unit and the DCH Cancer Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Circlewood Baptist Church Building Fund.
