Joseph B. Shaw, age 80, of Moundville, Alabama, passed away on September 25, 2017, at UAB Medical Center. He was born on February 17, 1937, in Cuba, Alabama, and lived most of his life in Pickens and Hale Counties. He served in the United States Navy and retired from the University of Alabama Police Department in 1986. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his family. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South in Tuscaloosa. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Moundville. Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the funeral home. Pastors John Alexander, Wyatt Rhone and Chuck Weaver will officiate. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Evan Calvin Shaw and Dorcus Walker Shaw; his former wife, Shelby Morrison Shaw; sisters, Tommie Shaw Miller, Inez Shaw Moilan and Nettie Shaw Brown; and his brother, William Revel Shaw. Survivors include his wife, Betty; son, Chris Shaw (Stacy) of Moundville; daughters, Wanda Shaw Henry (Ron) of Alabaster, Rebecca Shaw Goodson (Jerome) of Trussville and Pam Copeland Vickers (Wayne) of Alabaster; brother, James Shaw of Gordo; sisters, Ernestine Shaw McCrary of Moundville and Mattie Shaw Timmerman of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Amber Shaw Fondren (Justin) of Greensboro, Paige and Drake Shaw of Moundville, Jeremy Field of Fairfax, Mo., Travis Loggins of Trussville, Evan Wheat (Jamie) of Moundville, Jodi Wheat, Jordan Vickers and Will Vickers, all of Alabaster; and four great-grandchildren. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Stephen Browne, Dr. Phil Hemstreet, Dr. Raymond Poore, friends and family in the Moundville community, his coffee drinking buddies at County Line Grocery, members of Concord Baptist Church and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
